Taiwan Nature Positive Initiative

Origin of the Initiative

The World Economic Forum (WEF) identified in its 2022 Global Risks Report that the top three threats to the planet and humanity over the next decade are climate action failure, extreme weather events, and biodiversity loss. Climate change is a major driver of nature loss, which in turn accelerates climate change.

During the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 15) held in December 2022, the “Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework” was adopted, setting the direction for global biodiversity goals for the decade after 2020. Encouraging businesses to adopt responsible biodiversity actions is a crucial step toward improving nature-related business actions.

In response to these global trends, BCSD Taiwan, on December 15, 2022, initiated the “Taiwan Nature Positive Initiative (TNPI)” with eight founding companies: Acer, Asus, Bank SinoPac, Cathay Financial Holdings, Delta Electronics, Sinyi Group, Taiwan Cement Corporation and Wistron Corporation. Subsequently, Advantech, Chunghwa Telecom, CTBC Holding , E Ink, Nan Shan Life Insurance , Qisda, TS Financial Holding, Topco Scientific, and WNC Corporation joined the initiative. The platform aims to encourage proactive actions on nature and biodiversity conservation, nurture relevant professionals, and enhance transparency in corporate risk resilience and opportunity management.

Additionally, BCSD Taiwan and TNPI actively participate in leading international nature forums and communities to stay updated with the latest information and align with global trends. Currently, we engage with international organizations and forums such as SBTN Official Partner , Business for Nature coalition partner , The TNFD Forum ,  The Nature Positive Forum ,  EU Business and Biodiversity Platform members, and WBCSD Nature Positive Roadmaps Asia Pacific Partners.

Core Tasks

– Identify key projects and set short- to medium-term (1-3 years) goals.

– Connect with domestic and international networks, introducing tools and resources from global organizations such as WBCSD and Capitals Coalition, while promoting exchange between industry, government, academia, and research institutions in Taiwan.

– Organize capacity-building programs, including training and thematic workshops, to enhance corporate resilience in response to natural trends.

– Produce corporate case studies and develop replicable models to gradually establish a positive impact on nature.

We warmly welcome support and participation from all sectors to collectively respond to the Global Goal for Nature, achieving a net positive impact on nature by 2030 and full ecological recovery by 2050.
